Indian Railways Will Deploy 300 Isolation Coaches in Bihar to Fight COVID-19
Indian Railways has decided to deploy a total of 300 isolation coaches in Bihar at 15 Railway stations of the state. Corona Infected patients can be treated in these isolation coaches.
Rail News: Because of the increasing cases of Coronavirus, the Ministry of Railways has deployed COVID Care Isolation coaches at select stations across the country.
It has been decided to deploy a total of 300 isolation coaches of 20 compartments each at 15 stations in Bihar, where suspected and infected patients of Corona will be kept. A sufficient number of isolation coaches have already been prepared by the Indian Railways. 300 Isolation coaches in Bihar are equipped with medical equipment. These coaches are being deployed on the demand of the state government.
COVID Care Coaches Will Be Installed at These 15 Stations
Chief Public Relations Officer of East Central Railway, Rajesh Kumar said that these COVID Care coaches would be deployed at:
- Patna
- Sonpur
- Narkatiaganj
- Jayanagar
- Raxaul
- Barauni
- Muzaffarpur
- Saharsa
- Siwan
- Samastipur
- Darbhanga
- Sitamarhi
- Chapra
- Katihar
- Bhagalpur

20 Coaches Are Available in Each Isolation Trains
ECR CPRO Rajesh Kumar said that these COVID Care coaches standing at all stations have 20 general category coaches, and 16 patients can be accommodated in each coach. There will be one air-conditioned coach after every five coaches and then five coaches next to it. Air-conditioned coaches will be for the use of doctors, nursing staff and other personnel.
The District’s Civil Surgeon Will Be the Nodal Officer
The civil surgeon of the concerned area will play the role of the nodal officer to establish coordination between the railways and the state government. Nodal officers will inspect the identified railway station. Under their respective districts, they will inform the railway officials and the state headquarters about the necessary preparations. They will also fulfil the responsibilities of the state government under the protocol laid down for the management of COVID-19.

Isolation Coaches in Bihar Will Be Managed With the Help of Railways & State Government
PPE kits and other medical supplies to medical staff will be given by the state government, while the railways will provide this facility to the staff posted for maintenance of coaches.
The State Government will ensure the supply of drugs, medical supplies, oxygen cylinders, catering, pure drinking water, water tanker, bio-toilet, collection of waste and its disposal for the patients; while, water, power supply, maintenance of infrastructure, communication and security will be the responsibility of the railway administration.
The Protocol Will Have To Be Followed By Both Railways & State Government
The Railway Administration and the State Government will jointly ensure to work according to the laid down contract for the COVID Care Coach. At the time of handing over these coaches designed for COVID-19 isolation wards, its sanitization and clean-up work will be done by the Railways. At the same time, the state government will be responsible for sanitization and cleanliness during and after the experiment.
