In Pictures: Indian Railways Creates Post-COVID Coach for Safe Journey

Post-COVID Coach has been prepared by the Indian Railways at Kapoorthala Rail coach Workshop of Punjab to deal with the threat of Coronavirus. This unique idea will reduce the risk of corona infection during rail travel.

 

Rail News: To provide safe Rail journey during the Corona period, Indian Railways has created the world’s first Post-COVID Coach for the travellers. It has many new facilities, including hand-free services. Also, many such devices are installed in coaches, which will reduce the possibility of corona outbreak. Four coaches prepared at Kapurthala Rail Coach Factory were sent to Delhi by RCF’s Ravindra Gupta in the presence of other RCF officers and employees.

New Services Added in Post-COVID Coaches

Several changes have been made in the services of specially designed coaches. Some hands-free facilities have been incorporated for the convenience of passengers.

It Includes:

• Foot-operated water taps and soap dispensers on the washbasin
• Provision of foot-operated arrangements at lavatory doors and compartment doors.
• Flush valves have been provided to prevent virus threats.
• Plasma air purification is installed in the ACs of these coaches. This device disinfects the air and surface within the AC compartments.
• You can open the door of toilets through legs by pressing below the gate.

It Costs Rs 6-7 Lakhs to Make Such Coaches

COVID-free coaches are non-toxic and certified by the American Food and Drug Administration. According to railway officials, it costs Rs 6-7 lakh to prepare this coach. This type of arrangement has been made in the old coach itself. Under the scheme, such changes will be made in rail coaches on a large scale.

Nano Coating of Titanium Dioxide Has Been Applied in the Coaches

Kapurthala RCF GM Ravindra Gupta said that Nano coating of titanium dioxide had been used in the coaches. It is an environmentally friendly water-based coating which will eliminate viruses, bacteria, and fungal growth. It also enhances indoor air quality of Post-COVID coaches. Titanium dioxide is considered a safe substance. This coating is applied on washbasins, berths, snack tables, glass windows, floors and every surface that comes in human contact.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal Tweeted About These Coaches

Piyush Goyal said in a tweet that Indian Railways has created a unique coach with several design improvements which will curb the spread of COVID-19 and will also ensure a safe passenger journey.

Stickers regarding protection and precautions awareness from COVID-19 are attached in the coaches. Indian Railways claimed that these coaches would undoubtedly instil confidence in rail passengers to travel without fear. Indian Railways are fully capable of helping in the fight of the deadly threat of Corona.
