Indian Railways Will Provide 8 Lakh Employment Opportunities to Migrant Labourers
Indian Railways will provide employment opportunities to migrant workers and others in railway projects worth Rs 1,800 crore during the next 125 days till 31 October.
There is news of relief for unemployed migrant labourers. Indian Railways is going to provide employment opportunities to the migrant labourers. Indian Railways will provide 8 lakh employment opportunities to migrant workers in the next 125 days till 31 October under the Central Government’s Poor Welfare Employment Scheme.
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has announced this matter himself. These new jobs will generate revenue in the infrastructure sector of the railways.

Railways will invest Rs 1800 crore. Railway Minister has said that fulfilling its responsibility to the nation, Indian Railways will provide 8 lakh worker-days of employment in the infrastructure projects under the Prime Minister’s Garib Kalyan Rozgar Yojana (GKRYA) campaign. The cost of these projects is Rs 1800 crore.
Railways Will Appoint Nodal Officers in All Districts
Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav held a meeting with the general managers of public sector undertakings, divisional railway managers and managing directors through video conference. According to a statement, Railways will appoint nodal officers in all 116 districts and at the state level. Railway statement said, ‘This 125-day campaign will run on a mission basis, and it will emphasize the implementation of various categories of tasks/activities in 116 districts. These districts of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha have a large number of migrant workers.

Employment Campaign Will Implement in Mission Mode
The Ministry of Railways has reviewed the progress of the Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyan which is in 116 districts of 6 states. Railway Zone and Railway Public Undertakings (PSUs) also attended the meeting to review the progress of the Poor Welfare Employment Campaign. As far as the 125-day employment campaign is concerned, it will implement in mission mode. It will focus on various categories of activities in 116 districts. The states that have these 116 districts include Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha.
Railways Will Provide Following Works to Migrant Labourers:
- Construction and maintenance of connectivity routes to railway gates and railway stations.
- Removal of silt from waterways, ravines etc.
- Repairing and widening of existing railway embankments.
- Planting trees on railway land, etc.
Nearly 160 infrastructure related works have been identified. Meanwhile, the zonal railways have also directed to approve the proposed actions under MNREGA. The zonal railway will monitor the practices daily and submit a report to the ministry every Friday by the end of October 2020.
