IRCTC Allows Booking of 12 Tickets via Aadhar Number

Indian Railways has increased the number of ticket booking from 6 tickets to 12 tickets per passenger. The increase in monthly cap of the tickets was launched to register more Aadhar numbers with Indian Railways via irctc.co.in. The passengers who register their Aadhar number via IRCTC portal are called “Aadhaar-verified passengers” who can book 12 tickets from their ID. Railways had encouraged passengers to link Aadhar number to their online booking accounts and believed it one of the innovative ways to provide the facility for easy ticket booking.

How Can you Link Your Aadhar Number via Indian Railways?
Passengers booking their tickets via IRCTC online portal (irctc.co.in) can log in into their account and visit “My Profile” section and click on “Aadhaar KYC” to update their Aadhaar number. As the user enters Aadhar number to validate, an OTP is sent to the IRCTC registered mobile number. This OTP should be entered by the user for verification.

How Many Tickets Can You Book without Aadhar Verification?
Passengers without Aadhar verified accounts can continue to book 6 tickets a month in general quota and 4 tickets a month in Tatkal Quota.

Verification of Accompanying passenger’ Aadhar Number
Aadhar number of anyone accompanying passenger must be updated on the website. The section “Master List” allows doing so. The Aadhar number of the accompanying passenger will also be validated via OTP.

Malpractices in Ticket Bookings
Indian Railways has introduced this feature to remove the malpractices done by agents for ticket booking. Earlier, travel agents would create multiple fake ids and book tickets for their customers to sell them at higher prices. Now, Aadhar verified passengers can book tickets without any inconvenience and get confirmed tickets to ease their journey.

Prior to the digitization of Indian Railways, everyone must have gone through the pain of planning a journey to complete the journey towards the destination station.
