Indian Railways is one of the best modes of transport in India. Numerous people depend on it to travel from one point of the country to another. To enhance its services and comfortability, Indian Railways keeps working on it. This time, the world’s 4th largest rail network has announced the Amrit Bharat Scheme to transform the thousands of Indian railway stations and make them more beautiful and modern.
What is Amrit Bharat Scheme
Amrit Bharat Scheme replaces the existing railway scheme called Adarsh Station Scheme. Adarsh scheme was announced in 2009 for the beautification and upgradation of the station with annual revenue of less than Rs 20 crore and a passenger volume of less than 5 million.
The Amrit Bharat Scheme aims to modernise and enhance the facilities of the railway station. Under the project, 1000+ stations will be provided with master plans to develop stations with a long-term vision continuously. The zonal railway is responsible for selecting the station for the redevelopment drive.
Aims of the Amrit Bharat Scheme
Infrastructure Development of Station
The Amrit scheme focuses on constructing high-level platforms at all categories of stations and developing a well-covered drainage system on the platform. Moreover, it also aims to build structures beyond the Minimum Essential Amenities (MEA) and develop roof plazas, cafeterias, city centres, and railway stations. Under the scheme, roads will be widened, and dedicated pedestrians will be made to make the station easily accessible for people; unwanted structures will be removed, well-planned parking areas will be made, and proper signages and improved lighting will be installed at the station premises.
Enhancement of Amenities at Station
Free Wifi facility will be given to the passengers at the station; better furniture will be installed in waiting rooms, platforms, retiring rooms, and offices. So the passengers can stay comfortable and travel well through the train. There is also a provision to look at space for installing the 5G tower.
Things will be Made Easier For Divyangjan
According to the norms and regulations of the Indian Railway board, there will be an improvement in the facility provided to Divyangajan. Sufficient numbers of toilets will be built, especially for Divyangjan, that will be easily accessible and visible to them. The arrangement for cleanliness will also be ensured under the scheme. Moreover, other facilities will also be provided to the passengers.
How It Will Impact the Journey Experience of Passengers
- If passengers reach the station without viewing the train live running status and find the train late, they can wait at the station peacefully.
- With the availability of Wifi, passengers can easily download movies, series, and books on the station for their entertainment package.
- Under the scheme, modernisation will occur in phases and as a continuous process.
- High-level platforms will reduce the number of accidents that occur on railway tracks.
- Under the scheme, the facility for Divyangjan is focused. Passengers with special abilities can take its benefit and improve their journey experience.
