Sleeper class: 40 kg (Free allowance), 10 kg (Marginal allowance), 80 kg (Maximum quantity allowed which incorporate free allowance)

 

Second class: 35 kg (Free allowance), 10 kg (Marginal allowance), 70 kg(Maximum quantity allowed which includes free allowance)

 

Free Allowance: Refers to the weight that Indian Railways carries without charging any fees.

Marginal Allowance: Refers to the additional weight exceeding the free allowance, which results in extra charges.

If the luggage exceeds the limits, Indian railways charge an extra baggage fee that will be 1.5times to the standard luggage cost.

General Compartment Dimensions:

  • Luggage items such as trunks, suitcases, or boxes must follow size restrictions.

Within Marginal Allowance:

  • If a passenger carries unbooked or partially booked luggage exceeding the free allowance:
  • The rate applied is six times the standard luggage rate.

Children’s Allowance: Children between the age of 5 to 12 years considered for half of the ticket fare. With a limit of upto 50kg.

 

Group Travel: Groups should make sure their total luggage follows the rules for their travel class to avoid extra fines. If the limit exceeds.
