Indian Railways to Implement QR Code Ticket Checking System

Indian Railways will introduce a new system of QR code ticket checking system in all railway zones of the country. The Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS) has created an application for all zonal areas.

Rail News: Indian Railways has taken a big decision for implementation of QR code ticket checking system. On the model of Prayagraj Junction, tickets will now be checked with QR code at all stations in the country. To protect the passengers and employees from the infection of Corona, the Railway Board has ordered the implementation of ticket checking system in all zones with QR code.

QR Code System Was Started at Prayagraj Junction

Indian Railways started providing airport-like facility first at Prayagraj railway station. Reservation Counter clerks are issuing boarding tickets by scanning QR Code. Passengers can get the boarding pass from the machine placed in front of them. The contact between passengers and railway employees has been reduced to zero. Chief Public Relations Officer of North Central Railway, Ajit Kumar Singh said that this system was implemented as an experiment for the first time at Prayagraj Junction. The Railway Board has decided to implement this system in all zones after it proves to be effective in protecting Corona. For this, the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS) has sent the software of URL to all the regional headquarters of railway zones.

How Indian Railways Check Ticket With QR Code?

  • While booking the train tickets, the URL (link) of a QR Code will be sent from the railway via SMS to the passenger’s mobile. At the time of ticket checking, while entering the station and travelling in the train, passengers have to click on the URL of the QR Code available in the SMS. By doing this, the QR on the passenger’s mobile browser will appear.
  • During the train journey, the TTE will be able to scan the QR Code shown on the passenger’s mobile from his phone. QR Code scanners can be downloaded from the free app, Google play store or iOS play store. QR can also be scanned through a handheld scanner installed on stations. Through the code, all the details of the passenger’s PNR will come on the TTE’s phone.

QR Code Ticket Checking Service Will Help in Many Functions of Railways

Railways say that the use of technology ensures the safety of both employees and passengers during COVID period. This facility will also provide information about how many passengers are present on the platform, which will help in maintaining social distancing. Contactless ticket checking facility also helps in identifying the empty berths in the train, which can be sent to the next station for better availability of berths to the passengers.
