IRCTC e-Bedrolls: How to Book Blanket and Linen Online
Bedrolls are the packets containing blankets, pillows, linen etc. Indian Railways provide bedroll facility in AC classes of most of the Superfast/Mail Express/Premium and Special trains.
Earlier, the Indian Railway has withdrawn bedroll service in trains due to the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. However, to continue transporting the passengers safely, IRCTC has launched a disposable bedroll kit that can be used during the journey.

E-Bedrolls: Indian Railway’s Personalized Take Away Bedrolls Scheme
On 07 Feb 2016, Mr. Suresh Prabhu, the Union Minister of Indian Railways, launched various projects and schemes, including the personalised takeaway bedrolls scheme. Initially, the personalised bedrolls were supplied only to the Chennai Central Railway Station and Thiruvananthapuram Railway Station. Later the scheme was extended to New Delhi and other major railway stations in India.
Under this scheme, Indian Railways offer two types of bedrolls:
Type 1: It is a non-woven bedroll kit consisting of one pillow and two cotton bedsheets at the cost of Rs. 140.
Type 2: It is a bedroll kit consisting of one blanket in a non-woven bag at the cost of Rs. 110.
One of the most interesting things about e-bedroll is that it is disposable, and passengers can even take them to their home after use. Also, the bedroll prices are subject to change from time to time. Therefore, passengers should refer to the IRCTC tourism website for current pricing.

How Can You Book Bedroll?
Train passengers can purchase Bedroll online through the official IRCTC website. Passengers are required to provide the PNR number of their confirmed or RAC ticket. The system will validate the 10-digit PNR number and then show the information on bedroll availability, type, and cost.
Follow the steps below to book bedrolls online:
- Log in to the IRCTC Tourism website
- After you have logged in, Select the eBedroll option
- Enter the PNR Number of your Confirmed/RAC train ticket and click the search tab
- Select the bedroll kit you want to purchase
- You can choose to pay online through credit card, net banking or debits card
Remember, passengers have to bear the transaction charges of banks if it is applicable. Once the bedroll booking is successful, you will receive confirmation through e-mail and SMS. Bedroll booking service is available between 06.00 hrs. to 22.00 hrs., so passengers should make sure to purchase Bedroll during this period.
Refund for Non-Delivery of Bedroll
Sometimes, there might be situations when you don’t receive bedrolls on train. For example – If a train reaches the scheduled station late or anywhere between 22.00 hrs. to 06.00 hrs., bedrolls might not be delivered. As a result, IRCTC would refund 100% money to the passenger’s account. However, this refund will not include bank transaction charges.
Advance Reservation Period for Bedroll
A train passenger can book a Bedroll 60 days before the date of the journey. If you have not booked the Bedroll till the date of the journey, you can book it up to five hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
IRCTC Bedroll Cancellation and Amendment Rules
Train passengers should know the IRCTC rules about bedrolls listed below for their convenience.
- Passengers are not allowed to resell Bedrolls after use.
- Any Amendment or Cancellation of the Bedroll order must be made through the IRCTC website and with a registered ID.
- A Cancellation charge of 20% shall be incurred on passengers for any Amendment or Cancellation of Bedroll before five hours of the scheduled departure of the train.
- No refund to passengers for any Amendment or Cancellation of Bedroll within 5 hours of scheduled departure of the train.
In the event of non-supply of bedrolls, you should claim for refund within 20 hours of the train’s arrival. Also, make sure to certify your ticket from the TTE for non-supply of Bedrolls in the train because you will need to furnish it at the time of claim.

Does Indian Railway Provide Bedrolls in All Trains?
Yes, Indian Railways provide Bedrolls in all AC classes to make the journey comfortable for passengers. Generally, the bedroll kit is provided to all the train passengers with a Confirmed/RAC ticket. This kit includes one face towel, one blanket, one pillow, two bedsheets. You can use it until your destination station. At the termination of the journey, the Coach Attendant will collect the Bedroll from you.
Is Indian Railway Providing Bedroll During COVID Time?
Earlier, the Indian Railway has discontinued the bedroll service in trains due to the ongoing COVID-19 wave. However, you can buy germ-free disposable bedroll kits from IRCTC on payment of Rs. 300. These are specially designed bedroll kit containing a mask, toothbrush, comb, paper shop, and an alcohol-based sanitiser along with the blanket, bedsheet, and a pillow with cover. This is a good move from Indian Railways to counter the threat of Coronavirus and keep the train moving.
Can I Get Bedroll in Sleeper Class?
Though Indian Railways does not provide bedrolls in Sleeper Class, you can get it through IRCTC personalised takeaway bedrolls scheme. Under this scheme, the railway offers two types of Bedroll kits. Either you can book e-bedrolls online through the IRCTC tourism website or purchase them from the multi-purpose stalls on railway stations.
Suppose you are travelling by South Eastern Railway trains. In that case, bedrolls will be supplied in sleeper class if you have indicated Bedroll on the requisition slip for reservation while purchasing your ticket.
Is Bedroll Available In Garib Rath and Duronto Express Trains?
Yes, you can get the Bedroll in Garib Rath and Duronto trains after paying an additional amount of Rs. 25 for each kit. You have to opt for Bedroll while booking your tickets. After boarding the train, you have to show this ticket to the Coach attendant, and he/she will provide you with the Bedroll at your seat. Also, if you have not booked the Bedroll while purchasing your ticket, you can pay on the spot to get them on the train.
Remember, IRCTC provides the bedroll service in both these trains on a first-come, first-serve, FCFS basis.
