This month-long campaign will cover group bookings, fixed reservation quota, and concessional tickets with valid documents. Therefore, Indian Railways has appealed to passengers to cooperate with ticket checking and carry valid ID proof and tickets.

What is the Train Ticket Checking Drive From Oct 1 to 31, 2026?

Festive season increases ticket demand, and limited seat availability affects train journeys. Many passengers travel without tickets, which affects passenger comfort and railway operations. Therefore, in October 2026, Central Railway started a train ticket checking drive. It aims to ensure passengers travel with a valid ticket, ID proof, and follow ticket rules.

Ticket checking drives also focus on verifying reservation quotas, concessions, railway passes, and are not limited to identifying ticketless passengers. This move will reduce the overcrowded situation on trains and at railway stations, especially during Navratri.

How does Indian Railway Ticket Checking Impact Passengers?

Train Ticket checking can affect passengers with confirmed tickets and no valid ID proof. Moreover, ticket holders must present the document to establish eligibility for reservation quota or concessions.

PNR enquiry  can confirm the ticket status, but presenting valid ID proof is mandatory under railway rules. So, each passenger can face document verification and face a penalty following Indian railway rules.

Ticket Enquiry Drive and Group Booking

Ticket holders with group bookings also need to show the necessary documents. However, multiple passengers booking under one ticket need to present valid ID or necessary documents of at least one passenger. Failure to do so may result in all passengers being considered ticketless.

Acceptable ID Proof in Indian Railways

Multiple identity proofs are valid for verification in Indian Railways. These include Aadhaar, Voter ID, Passport, PAN, government photo ID, bank passbook with photo, and student ID.

Moreover, passengers must carry the original document instead of a photocopy or a document image on their phone.

Similarly, ticket holders in reservation quota, pass, or concession should carry sufficient documents to establish eligibility.

Failure to Establish Eligibility in Train Ticket Checking

Any passenger found to have failed to establish eligibility with a confirmed ticket may face a penalty under applicable railway rules. However, the ticketless travel penalty has increased to Rs. 500 from Rs. 250 from 20 June, 2026.
