Indian Railways announces the special New Delhi Katra train to handle passenger surge. The Northern Railway shared details on Wednesday about two Navratri special services 04081 / 04082 or 04083 / 04084 between Delhi and SVDK Katra.
The special services will provide a convenient way to visit Shri Mata Vaishno Devi during Navratri. This announcement is a big relief for devotees, offering more travel options and reducing pressure on regular services.
How Delhi to Vaishno Devi Special Services Matter During Navratri?
Navratri is a religious festival among Hindu and devotees prefer to travel to religious destinations. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine observes a high surge in visitors, causing a ticket shortage in the Delhi to Katra train. Therefore, Northern Railways decided to run special services between Delhi and Katra to reduce overcrowding on running services.
Devotees offer a significant time for worshipping Goddess Durga, including her different forms. Special services, in addition to Delhi Katra train, increase options and improve ticket confirmation during the visit. However, passengers should check the PNR status after chart preparation for final ticket status and journey details.
New Delhi to Katra Train Schedule
The service 04081 NDLS SVDK SPL will depart everyday from Thursday to Sunday from New Delhi at 11:45 PM and reach SVDK Katra the next day at 12:00 PM, covering 655 Km in 12 hours and 15 minutes.
Similarly, special service 04083 NDLS SVDK SPL will depart from New Delhi on 9 and 16 October on Friday afternoon at 02:00 PM. It will cover the Delhi to Katra distance of 655 km in 13 hours and reach its destination, SVDK Katra, on Saturday at 03:00 AM.
However, Delhi to Katra by train observes major stations on the route, including Ambala Cantt and Jammu Tawi, offering a 10-minute halt duration. Similarly, the return service 04084 SVDK NDLS SPL will operate on Saturday, offering passengers the option to return on 10, 17 and 24 October, 2026. So, passengers can check the train schedule for 04081 / 04082 or 04083 / 04084 for detailed information.
Delhi to Katra Train Route
Passengers can check the special train route to plan their journey to the pilgrimage destination this Navratri. However, this special Delhi Katra train will stop at different railway stations such as Sonipat, Panipat Jn, Kurukshetra Jn, Ambala Cant Jn, Dhandari Kalan, Jalandhar Cant, Pathankot Cantt, MC Sunil Kathua, Jammu Tawi and MCTM Udhampur before its destination.
Regular Train from Delhi to Katra Jammu
Multiple train services are available between Delhi and Vaishno Devi. So, passengers looking for Delhi to Vaishno Devi train may find multiple options. However, regular Delhi Katra trains are still insufficient to handle the Navratri surge in passengers.
