India’s New Bullet Train Route Connecting Varanasi-Siliguri and Patna

Indian Railway has introduced India’s first bullet train corridor that passes through Bihar and connects Varanasi, Patna, and Siliguri. As per the Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, this project is a Transformative move. With high speed and connectivity, this leads to reduced travel time and access to remote routes. 

 

 

Railway Minister quoted: This train has its own uniqueness as it accelerates economic growth, and amplifies the regional development. Indian Railways has allocated about ₹7,611 crore, and the Union Minister announced that Tamil Nadu will soon launch two new bullet train corridors. He also stated that this amount is nine times higher than during the Congress-led UPA years.

  

Varanasi–Siliguri High-Speed Rail Corridor: A Key National Project

 

The Varanasi-Siliguri train who considered a high-speed corridor, is an integral part of the Central Government’s plan. To develop the seven new routes across India. The major routes that passed through the cities include Patna and, most probably, Katihar, which helps to increase the connectivity between Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The bullet train will reduce the travel time between Varanasi and Siliguri to less than 3 hours, compared to the earlier duration of around 14 to 18 hours. This train will almost operate at a speed ranging from 300 to 350 Km per hour.

 

Delhi–Varanasi and Varanasi–Siliguri Routes: Boosting Regional Growth

 

The Railway Minister spoke about the Delhi–Varanasi and Varanasi–Siliguri bullet train corridors.

  • He said the crucial aspect of the routes, that they connect the major cities in Uttar Pradesh. New economic opportunities in this region that originate from the implementation of corridors. 
  • 157 Railway Stations are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
  • Four pairs of Amrit Bharat Trains are being operated.

After the Union Budget 2026-27 Set aside a capital that marks an impact as expenditure of Rs 2,93,030 crore forthe  Indian Railway. The highest ever capital has been allotted to expand and improve the connectivity and convenience for the passengers.
