Big news is coming in: Indian Railways has confirmed the permanent addition of 4 coaches to make the Vande Bharat Express equip with 20 coaches. Now, Ahmedabad-Mumbai Vande Bharat will run with 20 permanent coaches, increasing passenger seats to meet high demand.

Recently, on March 12, 2024, Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged the 42nd Vande Bharat Express to operate between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Official operation started the next day as train 22961 and 22962.

What is Indian Railways News Today?

The Ministry of Railways has made an announcement to commence the 42nd Vande Bharat Express with a 20-coach configuration. This move can meet passenger demand with notable expansion in semi-high-speed train capacity in the Western Railway zone.

The temporary augmentation of 4 coaches is now permanent from April 28, 2026. The train numbers 22961 and 22962 initially started with 16 coaches being increased to 20 coaches to meet higher passenger demand.

As per the Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, Vineet Abhishek, Ahmedabad Mumbai Vande Bharat will now run with 20 coaches permanently. He added that an additional four coaches will comprise the AC Chair Car class.
