Good news for West Bengal passengers: Howrah Junction has started platform number 24 from Monday (27 July). This new service is supposed to handle the 24-coach mail or express trains. It will handle the increased traffic and improve train management.

The latest expansion includes increased service at Howrah Junction with Platform number 24 for long-distance trains. This increased facility will improve punctuality by following train schedules and enhancing passenger convenience.

Platform Number 24 at New Complex
Howrah railway station has multiple platforms. Therefore, passengers may need to know that it is separated by the old and new complexes.
- The old complex (Terminal I) includes platform numbers 1 to 15.
- The new complex (Terminal II) includes platform numbers 17 to 24.
Previously, the new complex had platform numbers 17 to 23 only. The addition is part of a new complex (Terminal II), improving passenger convenience and train management.
So, passengers need to check PNR status before reaching the station. It helps to find the ticket status and expected platform number to avoid the last-minute chaos.

Eastern Railway at Howrah Junction New Platform
- According to Eastern Railway (ER), commissioning of platform number 24 will open for passengers from 05:00 hrs and beyond. So, passengers must follow the Public Address System of the station.
- During the completion period, several trains originated and terminated at Shalimar or Santragachi instead of Howrah for smooth operations.
- Howrah Station’s New Platform 24 will allow faster arrival/departure, improving train punctuality and offering enhanced operation flexibility.
- The project cost 2.69 Cr for construction to form a 635-meter platform to operate 24-coach long-distance Express/Mail services.
