IRCTC Upgraded Website Expected to Launch by 15 July
According to a recent announcement made by Ashwini Vaishnaw, people will witness a new and upgraded IRCTC website by 15 July. The current IRCTC portal is criticized for slow loading and affecting the ticket booking experience.
A viral clip is surfacing on social media where Vaishnav is talking with railway officials and ensuring the release of a new railway website by the promised date. This talk is witnessed when students at MNIT raise Captcha concern to the Railway Minister.
Problem with the Current IRCTC Portal
As per reports, the IRCTC website is flagged for crashes during peak booking hours (tatkal or premium tatkal booking). The captcha and OTP process seems to be delayed, affecting tatkal ticket booking.
According to railway official data, more than 88% of train ticket bookings are now made online using the IRCTC portal or website. However, Indian railways started accepting online ticket booking in 2002.

- Check the train schedule to plan tatkal booking because the railway’s new website will process fast for a seamless experience.
- Users will be able to choose the preferred seat and book a ticket by checking fares via the railway’s new website.
- The new system will increase the ticket booking capacity from 32,000 to 1.5 lakh tickets per minute.
- The PNR enquiry system will also see a boost from 4 lakh to 40 lakh enquiries per minute via the new IRCTC website.
Reasons for Introduction of New IRCTC Website
There are multiple reasons to replace the railway website. However, some main reasons to launch the new website are below.
- Indian Railways has observed massive growth in online train ticket booking after its introduction in 2002.
- Higher load has restricted the ticket booking performance, which can be seen through increased loading time, payment failure, Captcha issues, and others.
- After a long interval and numerous updates, the current IRCTC website may have reached its limit and requires major steps.
